How does online coaching work? What is online coaching? Many have heard about online coaching because of the circumstances of 2020. Online coaching has been around for a really long time. Probably as long as email has been around so has online training. Most of who used online was athletes but over the past 10 years it has become very popular with the general public. It can be really useful for many reasons. There are positives and negatives to online and we will dig into all of the pros and cons inside. Let's dive in. How does online coaching work? What is online coaching? How does online coaching work? What is online coaching? Online coaching is having a customized plan designed strictly for the individual. Most cases it includes a meal plan, exercise programming and a coach that can give support anywhere anytime through a mobile app. Online coaching works through an app in most cases. Delivering progress trackers, food tracking, workouts, an exercise library and 24/7 support. No longer are people confined to a single gym, state or country. Finding a coach that fits the needs of the person and furthermore finding someone that gets the client. Online training has been around for years but now because of world circumstances it’s been a growing trend. Better communication, better exercise libraries, better nutrition tracking tools and feeling more connected than a typical in person coach. As someone who has done both in person and online training both are effective and online is more effective than originally thought. I have been training online since 2018. Originally I was not sold on it. After all training hundreds of people through individual sessions or group training I could visibly see the results they were getting and most importantly talk to them face to face. When I realized the limitations were with me and not the training I had to develop new skills. In many ways I like online training because the access the client has to me and I can get to know the client better. Clients are no longer confined by a time sheet or 30 minutes to an hour of coaching them clients gain more from their coach. Now we could control workouts, nutrition and daily scheduling all in one. There are many perks to online coaching that I really wouldn’t have ever believed. Below we’ll dive into the perks and differences between the two. Perks Online vs in person There are many perks to online training but let’s take a look at online versus in person training: Scheduled Appointments IN PERSON The accountability of having a standing appointment with your trainer helps many people to stick to their training regime. ONLINE Fit your workout in around your life, not around your trainer. Avoid all the frustrations of anti-social training times, rushing through traffic and scheduling conflicts, and missed sessions with an in-person trainer. Scheduling is a huge factor in success and can put a burden on someone’s lifestyle. Many times trainer’s schedules are early morning or in the evening when people are getting off work. When waking up early in the morning sleep is lost, time is absorbed and it becomes a question of how sustainable will this be. Going directly from the gym time wise is a better option but if there’s traffic and errand that has to be done and the session is missed then what? Online training eliminates all of these. Going after work you’re never late, want to workout in the morning can be done from home while giving more time to sleep. EXERCISING PROGRAMMING IN PERSON Too tired or sore to do the program the way it’s written? Your trainer will be able to adjust your session on the spot if your workout is too challenging on any given day. ONLINE Online training makes home workouts challenging, meaningful, and means you can work out in the comfort of your own home. Perfect if you don’t want to go into a gym. Exercise programming really is never an issue if done by an experienced online coach. In person a coach can go based off how the client feels that day. Online coaching teaches how to give range and more leeway to a client where they learn to go at intensities that match their day. Nothing is absolute in the programming except the lesson of how to workout. Online coaching teaches the client of how to work out and learn how their body works. ACCOUNTABILITY AND SUPPORT IN PERSON Too tired or sore to do the program the way it’s written? Your trainer will be able to adjust your session on the spot if your workout is too challenging on any given day. ONLINE Online training makes home workouts challenging, meaningful, and means you can work out in the comfort of your own home. Perfect if you don’t want to go into a gym. Accountability and support is probably the biggest plus from online coaching. It basically is a coach in a pocket. Weekly check ins three times a week. Red light calls if client needs to talk. It’s a really game changer with having support 24/7 while the same can be said about accountability. PROGRESS TRACKING IN PERSON You'll often need to wait until your next session to get clear answers and support from your personal trainer. ONLINE Client stats, progress tracking, and communication with your trainer can happen in real-time using your smartphone. Progress tracking is a cornerstone of any program. Online it is a huge point of emphasis on how the program progresses. With an app such as trainerize there are so many metrics than be tracked to help find any issues as they arise and to track what’s going right. CHOICE OF TRAINER IN PERSON Often restricted to working with someone local to you, whether or not they specialize in training people with your specific demands. ONLINE Online training is a competitive marketplace. Your trainer can be anywhere in the world, so you don’t have to settle for a limited choice at your local gym. Choice of trainers is a key part of success. If we’re limited to what is within are area we may not find a trainer/ coach who fits our specific needs. With online we are more able to do our homework. Vet out the best possible option. Having options can help someone be comfortable with the change that is taking place and give confidence in the professional helping the client. COST IN PERSON In person training tends to cost more because of the time it takes to have a trainer with you during the session. ONLINE With in-person training, you buy the hour of the trainer’s time, and pay for the overheads of using the facility. Online, you can pay for a much better quality trainer for a fraction of the cost. Cost is simply better because of what is being paid for. When paying for online coaching the program isn’t really based off time rather a program that every aspect is created for the client. What is BTP all about and how WE utilize online training? Casey and Zaneta work together with every client. Every plan is created based off of a client’s lifestyle. Since most of our clients are parents we use personal experiences with that of our clients to deliver efficient solutions and get the results people desire. Depending on plans, with our most complete program it will deliver once a week phone calls, emergency calls, three weekly check ins through the app, complete exercise library, monthly custom workouts for the gym or at home and a complete lifestyle dependent nutrition program. Workouts are based off what is available to the client; time, equipment Everything evolves as the client evolves and once the goal is met there is a complete maintenance program done to ensure success remains and there is no backsliding. THE VERDICT For parents, online training offers almost all the benefits of in-person coaching - and more. It's an adequately planned training system with a trainer that cares about helping you. They have the time to provide you with the support you need because you aren't being squeezed in around other clients and fitness classes. With online training, you can get support not just with the technical pointers of your workout but also with all aspects of your health. Nutrition, sleep, mindset, and having someone that you can contact whenever you need to. You're not left to have personal conversations on the gym floor with music blaring. Online training with a great online coach is proper coaching; that not only gets results but teaches you how to sustain the results for life.
