It's true that equipment alone does not get results or make workouts for individuals but with proper programming and the intent to use the equipment in an effective fashion can yield amazing results. As a dad there are pieces of equipment that can make life much easier and help with faster progression. There is cardio related machines, weighted machines and many other pieces of equipment that can bring variety and help with the overload principle, while making a workout quicker with impressive results. We will be going over pieces of equipment that can be utilized at home and the many benefits of each and if there is the luxury of having multiple pieces meshing them together and creating an amazing workout for dads. Let's jump in... Fitness Equipment for Dad: 5 Pieces to help dad get shredded In the world we live in there is so much fitness equipment. There’s good, bad and plain baffling equipment that is advertised to the public. Most equipment is gimmicky and really is just to capture those who want to get to a goal fast. In short these pieces of equipment are created for quick revenue and basically screwing the consumer. As time goes by a good question could be asked: what is the best fitness equipment for dads? The answer is barbells, dumbbells, kettlebells, concept 2 equipment, and a rogue echo bike that provide multiple avenues of workouts and modalities. All pieces of equipment in this list will help dad get shredded and all have been around for quite some time. Each will provide the option to improve strength training, bodybuilding, marathon or simply looking better. Some are perfect for travel, while others are better left at home or in the gym. These all can be utilized together or alone. BARBELL IS KING Barbells bring an element that can hit so many muscle groups at once. Through utilizing push, pull, squat and lunge all the major movements are taken care of. Compound exercises such as back squat, deadlift, bench press and front rack lunges can hit almost every muscle in the body. The barbell gives a variety of full body exercises and can create an ever evolving staple of movements that continues physical growth. Hand placement can be different to target different muscles, such as, a hammer curl and a dumbbell curl. Simply changing the wrist placement changes the muscle that is being utilized. Dumbbells are also easily stored or transported as a barbell must stay put unless thrown in the bed of a truck. With dumbbells dads can have versatility to workouts with the ability to travel with or simply have at home stored under a bed. Dumbbells force increased stabilization which requires more muscle activation. This leads to more muscle being added. They also correct imbalances and are safe to bail out if you get in trouble. With the increased freedom of movement it will lead to injury prevention and better awareness. KETTLEBELLS = VERSATILITY Kettlebells add an element that the prior two pieces of equipment did not. Kettlebells can make their way through different planes conditioning and strengthening the body. Kettlebell workouts can be continuous movements taxing the body while not overusing one muscle group. With the increased heart rate calories will be burned long after the workout (excess post-exercise oxygen consumption). Like the dumbbells this can be stored and can travel so kettlebells are perfect for at home or on the road workouts. If there are other pieces of equipment utilized they can be combined or simply use the kettlebell for accessory type exercises. Kettlebells are a great way to keep workouts fresh and effective. Whether sprinkling it in or strictly using kettlebells are a great option for at home workouts. They are an all in one body conditioning tool, while improving core strength and stability. It further develops coordination and body awareness, along with provides major fat burning benefits. Plus it helps improve the hips power and it’s a great non-running cardio method. CONCEPT 2 FLEXIBILITY I’m cheating on this one but these machines you can’t go wrong with. Three of their most popular machines the rower, bike and ski ergs are used in many forms of training and for multiple purposes. These are used by professional athletes to dads. Their equipment is durable with some of the best trackable technology for any machine that is on the market. There are multiple ways to workout out with these machines. Maybe one day the work is geared toward burning calories simply put the number in of calories desired to burn. If looking to train distance then simply put the distance in. Working for time that can be entered as well and will give a countdown of how long is left to complete. If a dad is looking for a more complicated workout then there are interval options where it can be set up with the targeted stimulus and the amount of rest given. Heck there are even games to play on these machines. Let’s start with the rower. The rower can help with hamstrings, upper back, lower back, biceps and cardio. It’s easily stored when done using and doesn’t take much space. The bike can be great for toning quads and calves while delivering long duration workouts that can simulate running without the impact of running. Ski erg can hit the triceps and abs while getting the heart rate up. No matter what machine is chosen it provides many purposes and uses. The concepts ergs can be utilized for intervals, steady state cardio and metabolic conditioning. They can be coupled, tripled with other equipment: dumbbell, kettlebell, barbell and even body weight. Whether strength, conditioning or body composition is the goal these are a great tool regardless of the one chosen. ECHO BIKE RESULTS This bike is known to take souls. It is difficult to explain how powerful of a tool this bike is but it burns the legs, arms and lungs up. One minute on it can let a person know the bike works good. Like the above machines this bike helps build muscle, burn body fat and add another element to workouts. The bike has pedals and handles making the rider utilize a total body effort. It helps burn a large amount of calories in a short period of time. It improves one’s aerobic capacity, while giving a leg day workout all at once. It’s a quiet piece of equipment so it can be done pretty much anywhere at anytime without disturbing anyone. The cost is less than most treadmills as well.
Looking at fitness equipment for dad we need to keep it simple and not overthink. Barbell is an affordable tool that allows for a total body workout and can help dad’s target more muscle groups at once. Dumbbells can provide many of the benefits that the barbell can. Dumbbells can actually help recruit more muscle and give further mobility. Plus like the kettlebell it can be stored easily. Kettlebells add coordination and more conditioning to workouts enabling calories to continue to burn post exercise. Add concept machines to any of these pieces of equipment and a complete workout is what you’ll have. Shoot any one of these pieces of equipment can yield great results on their own. Then much like the concept machines the rogue echo bike can give you your bang for your buck. It can be a quick total conditioning or a long slow workout.
